Feeling ready for the big day

As your due date draws closer, your thoughts naturally turn to labour. Stories from friends, scenes from television and late-night reading all leave an impression, and worry shows up in the body as tension. Hypnobirthing replaces that tension with something far more useful: a deep, practised calm you step into whenever you choose. Expectant parents from across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch come to me to feel prepared, settled and quietly confident about the day ahead.

How I prepare you

Hypnobirthing with me is one-to-one and shaped around you: your pregnancy, your hopes for the birth and anything on your mind. I blend Ericksonian hypnosis with NLP, and each session gives you skills you practise at home until they are second nature.

  • Birth breathing. Slow, simple breathing patterns for each stage of labour, rehearsed until your body follows them on cue.
  • Self-hypnosis. A quick, reliable route into deep relaxation that you use at home, on the journey in and wherever you give birth.
  • Anchors for calm. Using NLP, I link your calmest state to a touch, a word or a scent, so your birth partner helps you return to it within moments.
  • Birth rehearsal. In hypnosis you walk through the day itself, from the first signs of labour to holding your baby, so it all feels familiar when the time comes.
  • Flexibility. You prepare for every kind of birth, including induction or caesarean, and you stay calm and in control whatever the day brings.

Your birth partner

Your birth partner is welcome at every session. Together you learn the cues, words and touch that help you settle, and your partner leaves with a clear role and the confidence to support you through each stage. Partners love having something practical to do, and they enjoy the calm of the sessions too.

Sessions, timing and fees

The middle months of pregnancy are a lovely time to begin, as they give you weeks to practise, and I shape the plan around whatever time you have. Sessions are in person in Bournemouth (BH8) or online by video, which is wonderfully easy in the later weeks when travel feels like hard work. Most parents choose the 7-hour course, usually five sessions, and every session is with me personally.

Fees: £195 an hour in person or £150 online, and the 7-hour course is £975 in person or £750 online. See the fees page for the full list. Your first step is a free 15–30 minute consultation.

Why parents choose me

I'm Tim Dunton, and I've been training since 2004. Over 20 years' experience and hundreds of clients later, my style remains warm, unhurried and personal. I practise as an Advanced and Ericksonian Hypnotherapist, belong to the GHR, and trained in NLP to Master Practitioner level under Richard Bandler and John Grinder, its co-founders. Questions

When should I start hypnobirthing?

The second trimester is ideal, giving you plenty of time to practise. Later starts work well too: I build the course around the weeks you have.

Can my birth partner join online sessions?

Yes. Sit together in front of the screen and I guide you both, exactly as I do in Bournemouth.

Does hypnobirthing suit every kind of birth?

Yes. The calm, the breathing and the rehearsal travel with you to a birth centre, a hospital or a home birth, whether the plan stays the same or changes on the day.

Will I be asleep during hypnosis?

You are awake, aware and in control the whole time, simply deeply relaxed and focused on my voice.

Can I see you alongside my GP?

Yes. Keep taking any medication as prescribed: I'm happy to work alongside your midwife, GP or medical team.
